The World Cup draws to a close and Spain are triumphant. Their first ever World Cup victory. Widely expected as the final result. In part due to the fact that a large part of the team have all played regular football at Barcelona.

The Spanish played well in what was a dirty game. The World Cup final was littered with yellow cards. One for De Jong’s karate kick on the chest of Xabi Alonso, which should have been a red card. Any how, this worked out well for our Holland to win most bookings points bet. This was frustrating because there was no time for us to place a bet, but, we hope our readers made the most of that one.

Let’s see the outcome of the LetsCompareBets World Cup betting diary.

There where 14 bets in total not counting the ones we didn’t place that we advised on in the previous post. Winning bets where 8 and 6 loosing bets. That’s a 57 percent strike rate.

We might add some meat to the bones later. Possibly after the event. Also, hopefully it’ll be obvious we can walk the walk as well as talk the talk.

Time for a quick recap of our World Cup Betting diary. You won’t find any match bets here, just goal betting, corner betting and booking points betting. Let’s see how things have gone.

What a surprise the England Germany game was. We can’t even say it was bitter sweet, well, as far as goal betting goes anyway. With a surprising 4 goals the game didn’t profit for an under 2.5 goal bet. However, the England game was more profitable in the corners market. The Corners match bet paid out because England where the best, once again, at winning corners. The 13 or more corner bet did not pay but was saved by the 10 – 12 corners bet that was placed. The saver bet placed for 10 – 12 corners is only available with Betfair, whereas normal bookmakers offer an exactly 11 corners bet. The chances of getting 10 -12 corners was less than getting over 13 corners. Hence, odds where longer so it only needed a small bet to cover the costs of loosing the over 13 corners bet.

Then there was the USA v Ghana goal bet. The low goal numbers continued and the goal bet won. When Cameroon played Holland there where less than 9 corners, so that was another bet that won. The same happened for Japan V Denmark.

Onward to tonight’s game. Holland will be battling against the Uruguay for the final on Sunday. Holland have looked very convincing so far winning 5 out of 5 games. Not surprisingly Holland are odds on favourite to win in normal time. Uruguay look more weak after having drawn 2 games; still no loses though.

Here are the stats that we will be using for the game. The majority of both Holland’s and Uruguay’s games have gone under 10 corners. That’s 3 out of 5 for Uruguay’s games and 4 out of 5 for Holland’s games. Both teams are winning on average less than 5 corners in each game.

An under 9 corners bet looks good here. Find the best odds.

Holland have a 100% trend that can’t be ignored. Holland have gotten the first booking in all of their games; 5 out of 5. They must be pumped up because they have also received the most bookings points in 4 out of 5 of their games. Whereas, Uruguay look quite weak here, with getting the first card in 2 out of 5 of their games, and have received most booking points in 2 games. On average Uruguay got 10 less bookings points (or a yellow card) less than their opponents per game. In some games they didn’t receive any bookings points.

A Holland to be the first team carded bet looks good. Find the best odds.

Asian handicap bets have been described in an earlier post. An ‘Asian Handicap Cards – Holland +0.5′ bet also looks good. Find the best odds or get the best free bets.

Last but not least there is a corners doubles bet that’s worth looking at. The most corners double; for Holland to get more corners than Uruguay, and for Spain to get more corners than Germany. Bwin have some good odds for this, although, that might have changed. Compare odds

In this edition of the LetsCompareBets World Cup betting diary we’re making predictions on the England Germany and Argentina Mexico.

England are favourites to beat Germany, but, only just. This is surprising perhaps, after being knocked out by Germany at both Euro ‘96 and World Cup ‘90. Germany is a different side from back then, so the impact on England should only be psychological. Germany has a young team and has key players such as Michael Ballack are injured.

Here are some tasty stats for betting on the World Cup England V Germany game.

England and Germany have not been scoring many goals. Under 2.5 goals (which is a typical type of goal bet for those who don’t know) have been produced in 3 out of 3 of England’s games and 2 out of 3 of Germany. Added to that Germany have been fairing progressively worse since their 4 – 0 stonker against Australia. There has been a 1 – 0 score line in half of the games played by England and Germany.

Here’s a goal betting tip. Go under 2.5 goals. Or perhaps bet on a 1 – 0 or 0 – 1 result supporting which ever team you think is more likely to win. Yikes, who will you go for England or Germany? Comments welcome.

An area where England will probably dominate is the corner market. England are good at winning corners, shown by an average of at least 12 corners in all 3 England games so far. They have won the most corners in 8 out of 10 games in qualifying: a trend that has continued during the group games.

Germany aren’t bad either. An over 10.5 corner bet would have paid in 2/3 of Germany’s games thus far. Germany have averaged 6 corners per game so far. They’ve won the most corners by at least 4 corners in every game.

With a game like this it is hard to pick a winner. The corners stats above point to a corner bet.

An over 10.5 corner bet is a good option. Also England to win most corners bet.

Argentina have won the Most Corners in all 3 games so far – Mexico have been out-cornered in 2 of their 3 games

Argentina have averaged 8.6 corners For in their 3 games while Mexico have averaged 4.0 corners For.

Argentina won 6 more corners than Nigeria in their first game. They out-cornered South Korea by 4 corners in their second game and won 9 more corners than Greece in the final group game.

A corner handicap bet could be good here. For example an Argentina -2 Corner Handicap bet. This would win if Argentina win at least 3 corners more than Mexico. Other ‘Corner Handicap’ bets are available where Argentina need only win 2 more corners than Mexico: another option.

England corner betting, World Cup tips and results so far

Starting with results so far. The first bet was Netherlands to beat Japan to nil. The Dutch national team has statistics that indicate their skill at defending. The Netherlands have an average of 0.2 goals scored against them and concede an average of under 10 corners in 80% of their games. If the team can’t win corners then they are unlikely to score goals. The Dutch are far superior to Japan in this area. Betfair offered odds of over 2 which enabled us to more than double the stake.

Betfair allow us to place lay bets. You might have noticed that the bet at the top of the picture above is a lay bet. The lay bet placed was for a 0 – 0 score line not to happen at half time between Brazil and Ivory Coast. Knowing how good Brazil are at attacking and how lacking Ivory Coast are in defense this seemed like a good bet. At odds over 2 on Betfair the liability (the amount I would have had to pay out if the score was 0-0) was only just over what I wanted to win.

But, what now?

Slovenia are top of Group C going in to this game, with 4 points. England and USA are equal on 2 points. Algeria have 1 point. England must win whereas a draw would be enough for Slovenia to qualify.

Scarily England have drawn two games, 1-1 with USA and 0 – 0 with Algeria. Considering England’s goal totals during qualification this has been a surprise. However, something England have been very good at has been winning corners. So far corner handicap bets have paid out consistently. Lets compare some past results.

Against the USA England won 4 more corners than the Americans.

Against Algeria England won 6 more corners than their opponents.

England won the Most Corners in 8 out of 10 games in qualifying, and that trend has continued so far at the World Cup. Slovenia have been out-cornered in both games so far, and in this one, England are the
team that need to go for the win.

The Netherlands are good a defending. In qualifying they won they conceded only 2 goals in 8 games. They kept a clean sheet and won in 6 of those games ‘to nil’. With Japan not being a strong attacking side show by low goal numbers and low corners won figures, a Netherlands win to nil bet might be in order. This is by no means meant as advice but just an account of a betting diary of the World Cup. Follow me at your own risk. I’m having fun. I won’t be losing any sleep or my house!

With odds of more the evens at Betfair that’s the first bet we’ll wager. Starting small. Lets see how it goes. World Cup betting diary, goals, corners, multiples

After posting here a few times about betting on the Football World Cup I have started to realise that the information was a bit stilted. A bit dry. Instead I’m going to join the fray and start betting on the World Cup as well. Instead of providing all the interesting stats, I’m going to provide the stats and place some bets. With video footage, and all the ups, downs and tantrums along the way. Mostly I’ll be using Betfair the betting exchange. If you don’t know what a betting exchange is then you can visit the website where there are perfectly good guides and explanations to how it works. It’s not like a normal bookmaker. The odds are better and there’s a little bit more to it. Not much tho. Or, you can visit Let’s Compare Bets the main site and look at our exchange betting guide.

To wet the whistle here are some interesting facts.

There where 3 or more goals in 80% of England’s matches
10 corners or less in 80% of Germany’s matches
Maradona’s side produced 4 yellow cards in 89% of their games
Holland are good a winning corners, and win more than the other side 87% of the time
Italy score the first goal with 27 minutes in 80% of their matches.

What about some stats from the other Nations competing

Switzerland’s opponents get the First Card in 80% of matches
94% of Paraguay’s matches produce 10 Corners of less
72% of Serbia’s matches produce at least 4 Yellow Cards
75% of North Korea’s matches produce 2 Goals or less
The 1st Goal is scored after the 27th Minute in 75% of Greece’s matches

I’m not talking about betting on match results here. Lets go a little bit off the radar. With so many bookmakers pricing weird and wacky markets there’s no point risking £7 to win £1 on a match result with the likes of Brazil or England. There’s too much interest in those markets. First bookings, goal scorer and corner betting is where it’s at.

With some stats at our finger tips they’ll be multiple betting on goals, corners and bookings; in various combinations. Not to forget a sprinkling time of goal, individual scorer and handicap bets. There’s plenty of bets available on World Cup games at around evens. You can almost double you money so I’m going to forget about, England, Brazil or Spain to win.

Corner betting at the football World Cup… Tip, France aint so boring

World cup teams bring the best and most talented players that footballing nations have to offer. When it comes down to football fixed odds betting trends emerge that can prove to be profitable. This post is about corner betting World Cup football games and the teams to watch out for.

Spotting profitable trends is the start of getting profitable World Cup corner bets. Using the statistics from the qualifying games is a good place to start.

During qualifying France gained the most corners in 92% of their qualifying games (11 out of 12). In 12 games France averaged a big 5 corners or more than their opponents.

The Netherlands won the most corners in 87% of their qualifying games (7 out of 8 )

Spain won the most corners in 80% of their games in qualifying (8 out of 10)

The Netherlands and Spain bettered their opponents by over 3 corners per game.

If they are matched against teams who do not win many corners or don’t score many goals you can profit. Also it’s a fun way to set up loads of bets and get more enjoyment from what might otherwise be games which offer no excitement.

At the World Cup corner bets can be placed on every game. The bets to go for are ‘total corner’ bets and ‘corner handicap’ bets.

World Cup Total Corners betting

This is the simplest form of corner betting. Will the match have more or less than 10 corners in total. Odds are offered on the under 10, over 10 and exactly 10 corner result.

A good idea is to stake on exactly 10 corners. The stake on exactly 10 corners needs to be just enough to cover the loss on the over or under corner bet should it not win. The chances of getting exactly 10 corners is relatively low meaning the odds should be quite long, so you only need to stake a small amount to win back the stake if the over or under bet does not win.

World Cup Corner Handicap betting

The bookmaker gives the best team at winning corners a handicap. The team must overcome the handicap before the bookmaker pays out. Here’s an example.

France (minus 2) 5/4. France is the favourite and has been given a minus 2 handicap.
Mexico (plus 2) 5/6. Mexico is not so good at winning corner so has another 2 corners added to their total.
Tie (Team B plus 2) 13/2. If there is a tie the underdog wins.

Worked example. If France wins 5 corners and Mexico win 4. After the handicap is applied France loses with 3 corners (total minus 2) and Mexico wins with 6 corners (total plus 2). If France has 8 corners and Mexico has 3. After the handicap France wins with 6 corners and Mexico loses with 5.

When when a team like France is matched against a team that does not have a good record of winning corners a corner handicap bet could be a good proposition.

Check out the results for France’s game against Uruguay, although boring, it would have paid out on a corner bet.

Keep an eye on the teams we have mentioned here, when playing the right opponents corner betting is the way forward. Taking a quick look an over 10 corner bet on France V Mexico you can get odds of 2.20. That’s £2.20 for every £1 staked. Betfair is an alternative to normal bookmakers. Goal betting on England…. the game against the USA is not a good example

England are good a scoring goals. Well most of the time. There is an interesting trend for people interested in goal betting on England’s World Cup games.

The World Cup betting market is generally set at “Over 2.50 Goals / Under 2.50 Goals”, as we all know you can not score a ½ goal so it has to be either 2 goals or less, or 3 goals or more.

8 of the last 10 England games have paid out a winner on Over
2.5 Goals bets

9 of the last 10 USA games have paid out a winner on Over 2.5
Goals bets.

Unfortunately the game against the USA proved to be the 2 out of 10 games that have not produced over 2.5 goals. After drawing 1:1 with the USA, Fabio Capello will surely have England ‘fired up’ for the next game. When playing another high goal scoring nation this is a goal betting opportunity.

Moreover, when England’s midfield problems are resolved when Gareth Barry returns that will free up Gerrard to play in a more comfortable position; away from Lampard which has not been a partnership that has performed well.

Since 1986 when the current World Cup tournament format was adopted there have been 348 matches played, of which, 149 had less than 2.50 goals and 199 games with 3 or more.

The bookmakers factor these results into their goals market prices and in the majority of cases the under 2.50 goals is set at the favourite of around 1.65-1.80.

A simple goal betting strategy would be to back Over 2.50 goals at evens (2.00 decimal) or greater. The odds offered by the bookmakers is currently about 1.8 or 4/5 for England vs Algeria. Betfair is known for normally having better odds than traditional bookmakers. Visiting Betfair you can get odds of 2.0 for over 2.5 goals. One cool feature of Betfair is that you can decide what odds you want. So instead of accepting the odds offered of 2.0 you can enter 2.3 instead. Taking what was mentioned above, if you can gets odds over evens (2.0) or more you will be obtaining value on what is roughly a 50:50 out come.
