Betfair to release a new Android app before Euro 2012

Betfair Android bettingBetfair mobile has not been treating the Android community with equal respect lately.  Android owners are annoyed and rightly so considering the way Betfair mobile has favored Apple products providing more updates to the system. Users of iPhones get more features and better user experience.  Not all is lost for Android users because Betfair plan to release a fresh version of Betfair mobile before Euro 2012.

Betfair mobile is a big part of Betfair’s customer offering.  People using Betfair mobile is growing at a big rate with the growth of smart phones and quality of betting applications.  Some reports put mobile betting growth at Betfair at almost 100% per year.  Not surprise there.  People can choose between Betfair for Android, iPad, iPhone, Blackberry, and Betfair on other mobiles.

Betfair for Android has not bee updated recently or any where near regularly enough to keep pace with the iPhone app.   For instance Betfair Android does not have the ‘cash out’ feature which allows users to close a bet before the event has fished.  Useful because it can secure a profit or reduce a loss if the event is not going as expected.  Most will agree that this is a good feature and sorely missed.

Not all is lost.  A great feature of the Android mobile platform is that the official Betfair sponsored app is not the only option.  Zoom Bet offer a good alternative.  Zoombet has the cash out function with a twist. Users can look for profitable ‘cash out’ opportunities across multiple selections.  As the odds move across various selections is produces profitable differences between the odds which can be ‘arbitraged’.  Other notable features include the In Play zone and live event search making accessing events fast and easy: a feature that football fans will appreciate.

Don’t wait for Euro 2012 to access Betfair on Android.  Betfair offer regular cash back offers on mobile bets to existing users.

Betfair gets pulses racing with a new womens’ volleyball promotion

Latest Betfair advertising get pulses racing. The latest Betfair bookmaker promotions are being advertised on womens volleyball palyers back sides…

great! The Volleyballers’ Zara Dampney and Shaune Mullin have allowed Betfair to advertise on the backs of their swimsuit bottoms in a sponsership deal.

The clever bit is that the barcode on the back of the swimsuit bottoms, when photographed with a smartphone, takes the user to the Betfair wesite to claim a free bet promotion. At Let’s Compare Bets our opinion is that this will be a great hit with guys many but women a alike.

Womens' volleyball meets Betfair

Betfair’s opinion is that there’s a big interest in beach volleyball. They didn’t mention that it’s womens beach volleyball (can’t remember there ever being much interest in mens beach volley ball). There’s not wonder that Betfair wants to grab the attention of the male fans as most Betfair members are male.

The bar codes are known as quick repsonse codes and allow potential customers to claim the latest Betfair promotions.

Some detractors including feminists say there’s a real lack of seriousness in womens sports. We’re sure Zara and Shauna wouldn’t have agreed to let their backsides promote Betfair if they agreed. A question that could be raised is that should these women been seen as athletes or walking advertising billboards. One things for sure, they’ve got great backsides.

In any case its good fun, but, if you want to get your hand on a generous Betfair promotion unrelated to womens volleyball players buttoms then it’s worth checking out their latest promotions.

Betfair sponsors ladies beach volleyball.

Here's another cheeky one!

Racing Traders release a major update to the Bet Trader bet trading software series

An email hit our inbox recently.  Regular readers will know that we’ve posted about scalping on Betfair and have reviewed Betfair trading software at Let’s Compare Bets.   When it comes to bet trading on Betfair using scalping techniques one software provider performed very well and was reviewed favourably.   Bet Trader from Racing Traders is the software, and they have just released a new version called Evo (short for Evolution) 4.

What our reviewers like about Racning Traders is that it has been designed for scalping on Betfair and was possibly the first Betfair trading software to come to market.  Bet Trader was created by a guy who had experience of trading financial markets in the city, and decided to use the same techniques for trading odds on Betfair.   Any way, we don’t want this to turn into a unashamed advert, but, here’s a quick run down about what we like about Bet Trader.

It’s designed for scalping making it easier and faster to make scalp trades.  It’s unique compared to it’s competitors due to the features available in the free version, and the fact it has a training mode.  Also, price is a plus point.   Bet Trader evolution has evolved.  There has been a major update of Bet Trader Evolution.

Back lay arbitrage betting using Betfair and bookmakers

Let’s Compare Bets has investigated various Betfair betting strategies.  During an investigation into horse betting strategies on Betfair our researchers noticed that horse odds on Betfair sometimes drop suddenly.  In fact odds on lots of sporting events show similar changes.  Dropping odds on Betfair makes betting exchange and bookmaker arbitrage possible.  A strategy that exploits the differences between the bookmaker odds and betting exchange odds.  Arbitrage betting can be repeated over and over which is what makes it attractive.

Specifically this type of betting is called back lay betting. A back bet is made with a bookmaker with a corresponding lay bet being made at a betting exchange like Betfair (Betfair FAQ). The rule is back high and lay at lower odds.

Bookmaker odds compared to Betfair odds

There is always a difference between bookmaker odds and Betfair odds. The reason for this is that Betfair odds are set by the market and not by a bookmaker who needs to protect profit margins. In general the odds on Betfair are always better than those at the bookmaker. Some bookmaker’s are very competitive, like Pinacle Sports, who try to compete with Betfair. Pinacle Sports are an online only bookmaker, as such they have low overheads, and are able to compete on price.  Normally the difference between bookmaker odds and Betfair odds is not large enough to generate arbitrage opportunities, in part, due to the commission that Betfair charges on profits. Betfiar commission is normally 5%.

So, when do Betfair back lay arbitrage betting opportunities occur?

Whilst investigating horse lay betting strategies on Betfair something our researchers observed was that the odds on certain horses tend to shorten suddenly by quite large amounts. Horses who’s odds do this are called steamers. If the odds shorten it creates an opportunity to back the horse with a bookmaker and lay the same horse at lower odds on Betfair, which produces a win win bet.

Horse race odds are not the only sports odds that tend to change suddenly.  Many sports exhibit this phenomenon.

What causes a sports odds to shorten?

Odds on Betfair shorten when there is more demand for backing the sport and market than there is for laying it (betting that an event won’t happen).  Demand changes depending on tipsters (especially with horses), players getting injured, or individuals making large bets.  Bookmakers are also actively use Betfair in order to balance sports books.  For instance, if a horse receive large amounts of money backing it to when the bookmaker may lay the horse on Betfair as a quick and easy way to reduces loses if the horse wins.
